What is Baking?

Baking is the process of validating transactions and adding new blocks to the Tezos blockchain. Bakers are rewarded with newly minted XTZ for their contribution to the network.

Consensus Mechanism

Tezos uses Liquid Proof-of-Stake (LPoS) where token holders can delegate their staking rights to bakers without transferring ownership.

Rewards

Bakers earn rewards for creating and endorsing blocks, which are distributed to delegators after taking a fee.

Requirements

To become a baker, you need at least 6,000 XTZ (1 roll) and a reliable server setup with proper security measures.

Governance Overview

Tezos has an on-chain governance mechanism that allows the protocol to upgrade itself through a formal proposal process.

Proposal Period

Bakers can submit and upvote protocol upgrade proposals during this period.

Exploration & Testing

The winning proposal moves to an exploration vote followed by a testing period on a test network.

Promotion & Adoption

After successful testing, a promotion vote determines if the proposal is adopted into the protocol.
